BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for CCTV OperatSIA CCTV Courseives (Public Space Surveillance) (NCCCTV(PSS))

CCTV(PSS) operatives have to be in possession of a licence issued to them by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). One of the eligibility criteria for licence applicants is that they must hold a relevant and accredited qualification. The new BIIAB NCCTV(PSS) meets this requirement. 

The Ofqual accredited qualification comprises of two units:

  • Unit 1 - Working in the Private Security IndustrySIA CCTV Course
  • Unit 2 - Working as a CCTV Operator

The Guided Learning Hours for the qualification are 30, and there is one 60 question multiple choice examination, for which 90 minutes are allowed. There is also an internal assessment for Unit 2.

  • Health & Safety in the Workplace
  • The Principles of Fire Safety
  • Non-fire-related Workplace Emergencies
  • The Principles of Effective Communication & Customer Care in the Private Security Industry

Unit 2: Working as a CCTV Operator

  • Codes of Practice, Operational Procedures & Guidlines
  • The Law
  • Roles & Responsibilities of a CCTV Team
  • CCTV Equipment & its Operation
  • Using CCTV Equipment Effectively
  • Emergency Procedures

Note: SIA-endorsed qualifications are valid for SIA licensing requirements regardless of which UK qualifications regulatory authority approved them. However:

• If you will be working mainly in Scotland then the qualifications most pertinent to you are those focussed on Scotland.

• If you will be working mainly in England, Wales or Northern Ireland then the most appropriate qualifications are those focussed on England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

If you intend to work in Scotland but your training focussed on England, Wales and Northern Ireland, we recommend that you undertake additional, location-specific training before you start work.
