HABC Level 2 Award in Fire Safety
The Level 2 Award in Managing Fire Safety is a qualification aimed at anyone involved in the management of fire safety in any workplace. This includes managers, supervisors, team leaders, fire wardens (marshals) and staff working in any area where there is a potential risk of fire.
Persons gaining this qualification will know that fire safety is the responsibility of everyone in the workplace and will recognise the consequences of a fire in any premises.
Entry Guidance
There are no prerequisites for this qualification. It is advised that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.
This qualification is approved for delivery to the age ranges Pre-16, 16-18 and 19+.

Qualification Structure
Understand the hazards and risks associated with fire in the workplace
1. How fires are caused in the workplace
2. The components of the fire triangle.
3. The hazards during or after a fire, including the products of combustion.
4. The characteristics of fire and smoke spread.
Understand how fire risk is controlled in the workplace
1. The different methods used to identify and control fire hazards.
2. The term "means of escape" in relation to fire hazards.
3. Typical components for means of escape from fire hazards.
4. Methods of fire detection and raising the alarm.
5. The principle of how fires are extinguished.
6. How portable fire-fighting equipment should be used safely.
7. Common fixed fire-fighting systems and where they might be used.
Understand the principles and practice of fire safety management at work
1. The duties of employers and employees with respect to fire safety in the workplace.
2. How to undertake a simple fire safety inspection in the workplace.
3. The stages involved in a fire risk assessment.
Understand the role of the nominated fire warden
1. The role and function of fire wardens in their workplace:
- on a day-to-day basis
- during an emergency
- if they are not in their designated areas of responsibility when the alarm is raised.
2. The content of a fire safety briefing.
How the qualification is assessed?
This qualification is assessed through a 30-question multiple-choice question examination.
The duration of the examination is 1 hour.
Successful learners must achieve a score of at least 20 out of 30.

Cost: Course fee reduced from £95 to £55 per delegate, (Until 31st March 2012) includes all handbooks, handouts, exam fee and qualification certificate.
