This HABC Award is designed for Stewarding at any event from sports (ie football, rugby, cricket, motor sport, horse racing) to music festivals, rock and pop concerts, parades or carnivals.
This course will meet all of the requirements for the 2012 London Olympic Games starting on 27 July to 12 Aug 2012 and also the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The XXTH Commonwealth Games will take place from 23rd July to 3rd August 2014.
It is supported by SkillsActive, the Sector Skills Council for the sport and active leisure sector.
This qualification is aimed at learners who wish to work as a steward in the Active Leisure and Learning sector. This may include sporting events, music festivals, rock and pop concerts, parades or carnivals.
Learners gaining this qualification will know how to prepare for events, control entry and exit of customers, identify and deal with crowd problems and respond to emergencies.

This qualification is suitable for learners aged 16 and over.
Although no formal qualifications are required to take the course, it is advised that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.All leaners must also posses a good understanding of English.

Unit 1 - How stewards prepare for spectator events
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of stewards and other staff at spectator events
- Know how stewards prepare for their duties at spectator events
- Know how stewards check for and respond to hazards at spectator event venues
Unit 2 - How stewards control the entry, exit and movement of spectators at events
- Know how stewards control the entry, exit and movement of spectators at events
- Know how stewards recognise and respond to illegal and prohibited items at spectator events
- Know how stewards help customers with their problems at spectator events
- Know how stewards deal with challenging customer behaviour at spectator events
Unit 3 - How stewards monitor crowds and respond to potential crowd problems at spectator events
- Know how stewards recognise and respond to potential crowd problems at spectator events
- Know how stewards recognise and respond to illegal and unsociable behaviour at spectator events
Unit 4 - How to respond to injuries, illnesses and other emergencies in active leisure and learning
- Know how to respond to injuries and illnesses on a first on scene basis
- Know how to follow emergency procedures
